Ba Futuru - Transformation Through The Arts

13 Feb, 2008

In 2008 in East Timor, thousands of people are still living in temporary camps. Ba Futuru is calling for donations to provide therapeutic activities to help the internally displaced persons and people living in high-conflict areas to cope with the fear, loss and grief and learn conflict resolution skills for the future.

Ba Futuru engages community leaders, children and youth with skill building workshops on conflict resolution and human rights to help break the cycle of violence in East Timor. By facilitating healing among those affected by conflict, raising knowledge of human rights and their relevance in day-to-day living, and encouraging creative expression and co-operation, Ba Futuru's Transformative Arts and Human Rights Education (TAHRE) program helps to create peaceful communities.

The TAHRE Program creates a culture of peace by contributing to the potential for a strong, democratic, and human rights-based society.  Ba Futuru also offers training for people working with children, and provides capacity development for teachers.

Recently, Ba Futuru developed a Postivie Discipline manual to educate teachers, childcare workers and community leaders about the negative consequences of violence against children.  It also highlights alternatives for effective non-violent discipline.
