doing in differently - Fr Bob Maguire Foundation

South Melbourne, where the Parish of Sts. Peter and Paul is situated, was a traditional social and ceremonial meeting place for a number of Aboriginal tribes. When gold was discovered in Victoria, fortune seekers flocked to a tent city which had been erected in South Melbourne - this was known as Canvas Town.
'We now have our own Canvas Town, or Tent City, in the grounds of my church' says Father Bob Maguire, 'we are hoping to alert people to the despair and lack of resources our clients live with. The homeless, the lost, the tired and hungry - can all pass through Tent City to the back of the Parish House and be nourished in body and soul.'
